JAMESTOWN, N.C. – Guilford Technical Community College is postponing its 54th Commencement Ceremony in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Graduation was scheduled for May 7, 2020, at the Greensboro Coliseum. A new date for the event has not been determined.

GTCC students eligible for graduation were notified this week. Any student who has paid the graduation fee will receive a refund. Additionally, the college will make the application for 2020 graduation free for all students.

“Since our Commencement has been postponed, we are refunding the graduation fee and waiving it for all graduating students,” said GTCC President Dr. Anthony Clarke. “While we have not determined a new date for Commencement, we are committed to celebrating the Class of 2020 at a later date.”

GTCC has been following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and other federal, state, and local agencies to respond to COVID-19. The college transitioned a substantial number of curriculum courses to an online format this week. Students will participate in these courses March 23 – April 5. In-person classes including all face-to-face lab, work-based learning, and clinical instruction courses are suspended until April 5. Workforce and continuing education classes, including off-site and customized training classes have also been suspended until April 5.
